GIVER
Ride Alongs! I had a lot of fun doing my ride alongs getting a chance to see what I was really getting my self into wanting to do it for my profession. I did a ride along with officer Dunkin and his K-9 Tulo. Although I am not allowed to say what happened during my ride alongs, I seen the danger they can come across. The first things the officer says when your about to do your ride along is to run from the scene of an accident if the officer were to get shot. That made me think twice. I also learned that a lot about police work is not just about fighting crime it is a lot of paper work too, for a couple seconds of fun there is two hours of paper work to do. When you approach a person you have pulled over you have two incounters that mean life or death the first approach is always dangerous because you don't know who you are dealing with. You need to be fully aware of your surroundings and never feel like everything is going to be okay, need to make sure you have the worst case scenario in your mind. Ask for license, registration, and where they are coming from, when you gather your information back away from the vehicle never taking your eyes off it. Once back in your own vehicle run both the license and registration. After you find out what the person is about, weather they have a warrent out for their arrest or if they are clear still approach them with caution. I still want to be an officer and then eventually a US Marshall.
